Antioxidants – the body’s natural protection

Antioxidants are mainly natural plant substances that support the defence mechanisms of human cells. They protect the body from oxidative stress which can lead to many diseases and speed up the aging process.
One of the richest sources of antioxidants is tea, be it white, green, red or black. Although all types of tea come from the same plant, their antioxidant properties vary depending on the degree of fermentation. Non-fermented and minimally processed teas, such as white and green tea, exhibit the strongest antioxidant activity, while fermented teas (black, red, oolong) contain slightly fewer antioxidants.
Antioxidants consumed with food neutralise the harmful effects of free radicals, reactive molecules that, in excess, can damage body cells. Thus, the antioxidants help reduce the risk of developing cancer, cardiovascular disease and other serious illnesses.
A long-term deficiency of antioxidants can lead to various health problems. Symptoms of their deficit may include frequent nosebleeds and swelling that appears in various parts of the body.
Regular consumption of antioxidant-rich foodstuffs, such as tea, vegetables and fruit, is a simple way to support your health and delay the aging process.
